Not to be too negative, but there are two things that disappointed me recently.
One
Every day when I go to work, I pass an electronic time and temperature sign that is always a little off. It is usually anywhere from 3 to 8 minutes off, depending on what year it is. If that doesn’t make sense to you, join the club. Anyway, after Daylight Savings Time, it’ll be an hour and 3 to 8 minutes off. They eventually correct the hour, but never the minutes. Well, this year they adjusted for Daylight Savings Time several days earlier than the rest of the country. So, the clock is an hour behind. Well, actually it is 63 minutes behind. Nine years and they can’t get it right. Why do they pay the electric bill for a sign when they obviously don’t care what time it is? Sigh.
Two
I’ve skimmed a couple of articles recently about church attendance. One was written by Ed Stetzer, who’s a smart guy. I’m sure the other writer is smart, too, I just don’t remember who it was. Anyway, the stuff that is being written about American church attendance is less than thrilling. A lot of people just don’t care about Jesus. And a lot of people love Jesus, but don’t want to go to church. I am left thinking what I always think when I think about this–people need to change, and the church needs to change, too. Which side needs to change more? Well, I guess the side that thinks the status quo is the problem is the side that needs to change what it is doing. Hmm.
